Dr. Harmes received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (animal sciences) from Purdue University in 2020 and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Illinois in 2024.
What are three things people would be surprised to know about you?
1) Hamsters are my favorite animal, 2) I am a Libra–which is not a surprise, I definitely give off Libra energy, and 3) I lived in the Caribbean for my first year of veterinary school.
Why did you choose a career in veterinary medicine?
I knew from a young age that I wanted to become a veterinarian because learning about them really fueled my fire. I was so excited to do anything I could with animals and work towards my goal. Now being older and having gone through veterinary school, I know I want to kindle the human-animal bond and use my platform and education to ensure good animal health and welfare. Animals are such a blessing and I want to do what I can to assist my community with their fluffy family members.
What do you love to do in your free time?
I love hiking, tennis, pickleball, traveling, reading, language learning, listening to podcasts, and watching online streaming series.
What is your favorite thing about working at Midwest?
You will never meet an angry person here. Everyone is so happy to be doing what they’re doing and to be serving their community and their pets. It’s so nice to see everyone working towards the same goal of animal health.
